What this skill does

It scans a live search result for any keyword and region and tells you who is bidding on it, who ranks organically, and what the search volume, top-of-page CPC and competition really are.

Apps needed

Any AI assistant that reads a SKILL.md file (Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex). No separate app, no subscription, no account. It uses a live search feed, so you add your own search and keyword data keys once when the skill asks; nothing is hardcoded.

Competitor X-Ray turns competitor keyword research into a single instruction inside your own AI assistant. Tell it one keyword and a region, and it pulls a live search result to reveal who is bidding on that keyword in the paid ads, which domains dominate the organic results, and the real monthly search volume, top-of-page CPC and competition level for that term and its variations. Instead of paying for a heavy SEO suite or guessing what your paid search competitors are doing, you get an on-demand X-ray of any keyword market: who advertises, who ranks, what a click costs, and where the low-competition gaps are before you spend a dollar on Google Ads.

What you gain
  • See exactly who is bidding on a keyword in the live paid results, or get the official transparency-center link when the ads are not captured in that moment
  • Know the real organic competitors, with aggregators (directories, marketplaces, social) flagged so you do not confuse them with true rivals
  • Get real monthly search volume, top-of-page CPC and competition for the keyword and its regional variations, never invented numbers
  • Spot low-competition, decent-volume gaps to attack before you launch or scale a campaign
  • Read the whole landscape by region, because the same keyword plays out differently city by city
  • Skip the monthly SEO-tool subscription: run competitor keyword research on demand, one keyword at a time
How it works, step by step
  • 1
Drop the skill into your assistant

Save the SKILL.md file where your AI reads its skills (Claude, Claude Code, Cursor or Codex). No install step, no build, no server to run.

  • 2
Give it a keyword and a region

Say the keyword you care about (for example a service plus a city). If you do not give a region, it asks first, because the region changes the whole auction and the results.

  • 3
It pulls a live search result

Using your search and keyword-data keys, it queries the live search engine results once for that keyword and location. It asks before using anything that costs a credit, so you stay in control of spend.

  • 4
    It maps paid and organic

It reads the paid podium (who is advertising, their offer, sitelinks) on a best-effort basis, plus the organic podium (the domains that own the search), flagging aggregators so real competitors stand out.

  • 5
It adds volume, CPC and competition

It layers in real monthly search volume, top-of-page CPC, competition level and intent for the keyword and its regional variations, plus related searches and people-also-ask questions from the same result.

  • 6
    You get the full read-out

You receive a clear competitive briefing: who dominates, what a click costs, where the gaps are, and whether your own domain shows up, ready to turn into ad groups and creative direction.

What it generates
  • A paid-ads podium for the keyword (advertiser, headline, offer, sitelinks) or the official transparency-center link when ads are not captured
  • An organic podium of the real ranking competitors, with aggregators labeled
  • A regional keyword table with monthly volume, top-of-page CPC, competition and intent
  • A list of related searches and people-also-ask questions from the live result
  • A plain-language read-out of where the opportunities and low-competition gaps are
  • An optional deeper pass that opens each competitor page to check for pricing, calls to action, contact and reviews
Variations

Local service X-ray

Point it at a service keyword plus a city or state to see the exact paid and organic rivals fighting for that local market, and the real local CPC.

Deep competitor pass

Ask it to open each ranking page so you learn which rivals show pricing, strong calls to action, contact options and reviews, then model your landing page against the best of them.

Gap-hunting run

Ask it to surface the decent-volume, low-competition variations of your keyword so you enter the terms your competitors are ignoring.

FAQ
What is the Competitor X-Ray skill?

It is a SKILL.md file you add to your AI assistant. Give it one keyword and a region and it reveals who is bidding on that keyword in the paid ads, who ranks organically, and the real search volume, CPC and competition, so you can plan or optimize paid search without a heavy SEO suite.

Does it work with Claude, Cursor and Codex?

Yes. It is a plain SKILL.md file, so it runs in any AI assistant that reads skills, including Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.

Do I need to install anything or pay a subscription?

No app and no subscription. It runs inside your assistant. Because it reads a live search feed, you add your own search and keyword-data keys once when it asks, and there is no hardcoded account.

Can it really tell me who is bidding on a keyword?

It reads the live paid results on a best-effort basis, since search engines serve ads intermittently to scrapers. When ads are not captured at that moment, it hands you the official transparency-center link for that region so you can still see the advertisers and their creatives.

Will it invent numbers?

No. Search volume, CPC and competition come from real keyword data. If a metric is missing it says so and uses the real variations from the search result instead of guessing.

Do I need design or coding skills to use it?

No. You just tell your assistant a keyword and a region in plain language. The skill handles the research and gives you a readable competitive briefing.
